  • Question 1
    1 / -0

    Marks of Sam and Robin are in the ratio of 5 : 3. If Sam has 150 more marks than Robin, then calculate the marks of Robin.

    Solution

    Let Sam's marks be 5x.
    Let Robin's marks be 3x.
    ATQ,
    5x = 150 + 3x
    5x - 3x = 150
    2x = 150
    x = 75
    Robin's marks = 75 × 3 = 225

  • Question 2
    1 / -0

    Sam's piggy bank contains some 50 pence, 10 pence and 5 pence coins in the ratio 4 : 3 : 2. If total money in the piggy bank is 480 pence, find the total number of coins.

    Solution

    Let the number of 50 pence coins, 10 pence coins and 5 pence coins be 4x, 3x and 2x, respectively.
    According to the question,

    4x × 50 + 3x × 10 + 2x × 5 = 480
    200x + 30x + 10x = 480
    240x = 480
    x = 2

    Number of 50 pence coins = 4 × 2 = 8
    Number of 10 pence coins = 3 × 2 = 6
    Number of 5 pence coins = 2 × 2 = 4
    Total number of coins = 8 + 6 + 4 = 18

  • Question 3
    1 / -0

    Anu and Shilpa divide some artificial pearls in the ratio 7 : 5, respectively. If Shilpa's share was 70, then find the total number of pearls.

    Solution

    Anu's share = 7x
    Shilpa's share = 5x
    ATQ, Shilpa's share = 70
    So, 5x = 70
    x = 70 ÷ 5
    x = 14
    Anu's share = 7 × 14 = 98
    Therefore, total number of pearls = 98 + 70 = 168

  • Question 4

  • Question 5
    1 / -0

    210 boxes of fireworks are divided between brothers Raman and Danny in the ratio 8 : 6. Find the number of firework boxes that Raman will get.

    Solution

    Let Raman's share = 8x
    So, Danny's share = 6x

    From question,
    8x + 6x = 210
    14x = 210
    x = 15

    So, Raman's share = 15 × 8 = 120
