  • Question 1

A wholesale fruit seller sells 120 kg of apples to a juice bar and another 50 kg to a retailer. If the apples cost Rs. 80 per kg, then how much money does he make in total on both transactions?

    Solution

Quantity of apples sold to juice bar = 120 kg
Quantity of apples sold to retailer = 50 kg
    Total quantity of apples sold = 120 + 50 = 170 kg
    Cost of 1 kg = Rs. 80
    Cost of 170 kg = 170 × 80 = Rs. 13,600

  • Question 2
    1 / -0

On a daily basis, Manish earns Rs. 80 by selling newspapers, Rs. 180 by working as a storekeeper and Rs. 220 by working in a factory. Komal earns Rs. 90 by selling newspapers, Rs. 200 by working as a storekeeper and Rs. 260 by working in a factory everyday.

What are their combined daily earnings?

    Solution

    Daily earnings of Manish = 80 + 180 + 220 = Rs. 480

    Daily earnings of Komal = 90 + 200 + 260 = Rs. 550

    Combined daily earnings = Rs. 480 + Rs. 550 = Rs. 1030

  • Question 3
    1 / -0

There are 336 blue marbles in a bag. A man takes out 8 blue marbles from it and replaces them with 16 red marbles. He continues to do so until all blue marbles are replaced with red marbles. In the end, the number of red marbles in the bag is _____________.

    Solution

Let n be the number of steps.
    According to question:
    336 - (8 × n) = 0
    8n = 336
    n = 12

Now, number of red balls put in the bag in each step = 16
    Number of red marbles put in the bag in 12 steps = 16 × 12 = 192

  • Question 4
    1 / -0

Chirag had Rs. 4,20,000. He gave Rs. 45,200 to Jai, Rs. 1,20,000 to Joe, and Rs. 1,80,000 to John. How much money was left with him?

    Solution

Total money given to Jai, Joe and John = Rs. 45,200 + Rs. 1,20,000 + Rs. 1,80,000
    Money left = Rs. 4,20,000 - (Rs. 45,200 + Rs. 1,20,000 + Rs. 1,80,000)
    = Rs. 4,20,000 - Rs. 3,45,200 = Rs. 74,800

  • Question 5
    1 / -0

If p, q and r are whole numbers, then match the following:

      Column 1   Column 2
    1. p + q = q + p a. Commutative property
    2. (p + q) + r = p + (q + r) b. Distributive property
    3. p(q + r) = pq + pr c. Associative property
        d. Closure property
    Solution

    1. p + q = q + p is the commutative property.
    2. (p + q) + r = p + (q + r) is the associative property.
    3. p(q + r) = pq + pr is the distributive property.

  • Question 6
    1 / -0

State T for True and F for False:

    1. Product of any two natural numbers is always more than their sum.
    2. Natural numbers start from 0.
    3. If a natural number is divided by another natural number (the second is bigger), then the answer will always be less than 1.

      I II III
    A T F F
    B F F F
    C F F T
    D T T T
    Solution

    (1) The product of any two natural numbers is not always more than their sum.
In case of 1 and 2, it is not correct.

    (2) Natural numbers start from 1. So, it is false.

    (3) If a natural number is divided by another natural number, it will always be less than 1.

Study the following statements and choose the correct option accordingly.

    ...view full instructions

Statement 1: Addition of natural numbers is commutative.
Statement 2: Multiplication of natural numbers is closed and associative.

    A. Both Statement 1 and Statement 2 are true.
    B. Statement 1 is true, but Statement 2 is false.
    C. Statement 1 is false, but Statement 2 is true.
    D. Both Statement 1 and Statement 2 are false.

    Solution

Statement 1 is true because the addition of natural numbers is always commutative.
    1 + 2 = 2 + 1

Statement 2 is true because multiplication of natural number is closed and associative.
    1 × (2 × 4) = (1 × 2) × 4

    Both statements are true.

  • Question 8

    Match the following:

      Column - I Column - II
I The smallest natural number is 6
II The whole number that has no predecessor is 1
III When 5 is added to the smallest natural number, the result will be 0

      I II III
    A 1 0 6
    B 0 1 6
    C 6 0 1
    D 0 6 1
    Solution

The smallest natural number is 1.
The whole number that has no predecessor is 0.
When 5 is added to the smallest natural number, the result will be: 5 + 1 = 6.

  • Question 9
    1 / -0

    Fill in the blanks.

    1. The product of any two odd natural numbers is __________.
    2. The product of the smallest whole number and 1562 is _________.
    3. The sum of the biggest two-digit natural number and 1 is ______.
    4. If a and b are two natural numbers and b > a, then a - b is always _________.

      1 2 3 4
    A even 1 99 negative
    B odd 0 100 negative
    C even 0 0 positive
    D odd 1 100 zero
    Solution

    1. The product of two odd numbers = Odd
    2. Smallest whole number is 0 and therefore, 0 × 1562 = 0.
    3. Biggest two-digit number is 99. So, 99 + 1 = 100.
    4. If a and b are natural numbers and b > a, then a - b will always be negative.
