  • Question 1
    1 / -0

Read the following statements and find M, N, O and P with the help of table given below.

    (i) The sum of two integers is 94. If one of the numbers is 60, then the other integer is M .
(ii) The sum of a negative integer and a N integer is always a negative number.
(iii) When an even number gets multiplied by another even number, the result is always O .
(iv) The multiplicative inverse of 9 is P .

      M N O P
    A 34 negative even 1/9
    B 34 positive odd 9
    C -34 positive even/odd -9
    D 34 negative even/odd 1/9
    Solution

    (i) Since, the sum of two integers is 94 and one of the numbers is 60, then the other integer, M = 94 - 60 = 34

(ii) Let the integer be -5.
    According to question,
    -5 + N = -10
    N = -10 + 5
    N = -5
So, N should always be a negative number.

(iii) When an even number gets multiplied by another even number, the result will always an even number.

(iv) P is the multiplicative inverse of 9.
By the property of multiplicative inverse,
    P x 9 = 1 gives P = 1/9

  • Question 2
    1 / -0

Which of the following statements is false?

    Solution

The sum of any integer and its opposite is equal to zero.

  • Question 3
    1 / -0

    The value of (-6) x (-8) x (-2) x (0) x (1) + (5) x (2) x (3) x (6) is

    Solution

    We have, (-6) x (-8) x (-2) x (0) x (1) + (5) x (2) x (3) x (6)
    = 0 + 180
    = 180

  • Question 4
    1 / -0

Which of the following statements is/are correct?

Statement 1: Changing the order of the factors does not change the product.
Statement 2: Adding a zero to any number does not change the value of the number.

    Solution

    (1) Changing the order of the factors does not change the product. For example: (-3) x 8 = 8 x (-3)

    (2) Adding a zero to any number does not change the value of the number. For example: -7 + 0 = -7

  • Question 5
    1 / -0

    Find the value of the expression [(-8) x (-6) x (-15)] + [(-20) x (-7) x (-1)].

    Solution

    [(-8) x (-6) x (-15)] + [(-20) x (-7) x (-1)]
    = [48 x (-15)] + [140 x (-1)]
    = -720 + (-140)
    = -720 - 140
    = -860
