  • Question 7
    1 / -0

A and B start moving towards each other from two places 200 m apart. After walking 60 m, B turns left and goes 20 m, then he turns right and goes 40 m. He then turns right again and comes back to the road on which he had started walking. If A and B walk with the same speed, what is the distance between A and B now?

    Solution

    Total distance travelled by in all directions B = 60 + 20 + 40 + 20 = 140 m
It is given that B and A are walking with same speed , so distance covered by B will be equal to distance covered by A i.e 140 m.
Now , as shown in the picture A is travelling along the straight line between them, therefore, the distance covered by A will be 140 m towards B's initial point.
Whereas, B has travelled only 100 m towards A's initial position as shown in figure.
So, the total distance, after walking 140 m towards each other will be 140 -100 = 40 m.

In a class of 60, where the number of girls is twice that of boys, Aman ranked seventeenth from the top. If there are 9 girls ahead of Aman, how many boys are after him in rank?

    Solution

Let the number of boys in the class=b.
Number of girls in the class=2b.
    So, 2b + b = 3b = 60.
    b = 20.
Now, in the question, Aman is referred to as 'him'.
It is thus concluded that Aman is a boy.
Now, as Aman is ranked seventeenth from the top, this implies there are 16 students ahead of him.
Out of these 16, 9 are girls.
    So, 7 must be boys.
    So till the 17th rank, there are 7 + 1 = 8 boys.
    So, number of boys in rank after Aman = 20 - 8 = 12.
