CBSE Academic Session 2021-22 : CBSE Competency-Based Questions For 9th To 12th, Check Details Here

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will assess the students of Classes 9 to 12 on the basis of the application of concepts in “real-life or unfamiliar situations”. Termed competency-based questions, the questions in the CBSE board exams will include multiple-choice questions (MCQs), case-based questions, and source-based integrated questions, as per the circular released on April 22. CBSE’s competency-based education project is aimed at replacing the existing rote-learning model with a competency-based framework as is mentioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Competency-Based Questions: Nature, Marks Allotment

For Class 9 and Class 10, CBSE has decided to introduce a minimum of 30 percent competency-based questions in the form of Multiple Choice questions (MCQs), case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, etc. 20 percent of the questions will be objective type and the remaining 50 percent will be short and long answer type questions, as per the existing pattern.

Here are the changes mentioned in the official notification of the board for internal and year-end or board examinations:

  • Objective type Questions including Multiple Choice Question-20%
  • Case-based/Source-based Integrated Questions - 20%

  • Competency-Based Questions would be minimum of 30% These  can  be in the form  of Multiple- Choice Questions, Case-Based Questions, Source-Based Integrated Questions, or any other types
  • Objective Questions will be 20 %
  • Remaining  50%  Short  Answer/  Long Answer Questions - (as per existing pattern)

  • These can be in the form of Multiple- Choice  Questions,  Case-Based Questions, Source-Based Integrated Questions, or any other types Objective Questions will be 20 %
  • Remaining 60% Short Answer/ Long Answer Questions- (as per existing pattern)
