CBSE Board has brought forward that it will conduct CBSE Class 12th Examination for “Major Subjects” only.

Currently, the board is offering 174 subjects of which 20 subjects are considered as major by CBSE. These include Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Business Studies, Accountancy, History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, English, etc.

A CBSE student has general permission to take a minimum of 5 subjects and a maximum of 6 subjects, usually, Four subjects are considered as major from that selection.

According to the source, CBSE board has brought two options in front of the Education Ministry to conduct the examination for “Major” Subjects.

Under the first option, CBSE Board has suggested that the examination of major subjects should be held in the “existing format” and it should be held in selected examination centers. The marks of minor subjects should be calculated on the basis of performances in the major subjects.

Consequences of Examination Options

If this option will be chosen for conducting the class 12th board examination. Then the board should have a window of three months.

Because for executing this option one month will be required for pre-activities for the exam. And 2 months will be required to conduct the examination and for declaring the results. Along with that, 45 days will be needed for compartment examination as well.

For the second option, the board has proposed that the examination for the major subjects can be held in their own schools rather than designated exam centers.

But the timing of the examination should be one and half hours instead of 3 hours long. And the question papers should be prepared for only objective-type questions and short answer questions.

According to the given situation, CBSE Class 12th students will have to appear for the “three major subjects” and one language subject. Marks for rest subjects will be given on the basis of the performance in the major subjects.

What if Any Student is Affected with COVID?

If any student is affected with COVID then they will get another chance to appear for the examination.

If the board will choose the first option, then the examination will be conducted in two different phases. These phases are suggested due to the variations of the COVID situation across the country.

The first phase of the examination will be held in favorable places. The remaining areas will have the examination in the second phase. The difference between the two phases will be 2 weeks.

Earlier Decisions taken for the Board Examination?

Earlier on the 14th of April the board decided to cancel the Class 10th board examination and postponed the Class 12th examination due to the second wave of COVID Pandemic.

Again on 1st May, the board announced the special marking schemes for CBSE Class 10th students. And for 12th board examination, the board said that they will take the further decision on 1st June after reviewing the COVID situation. Also, the new exam dates and the announcement of the examination will be made two weeks before the start of the exam.

Sunday’s meeting with all the state governments has been called to decide, whether the first option should be implemented or the second option for conducting the examination for CBSE Class 12th.

By the way, all the state boards ICSE, and CBSE have postponed their class 12th examination.
