The National Testing Agency (NTA) has recently concluded the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2024 in May. Feedback from students suggests that the exam was perceived as moderately difficult, with Biology being noted as the easiest section of the question paper. Now, candidates eagerly await the announcement of the NEET cut off or qualifying marks to assess their eligibility for admission to medical colleges of their choice.

NEET Cut Off 2024

The NEET UG exam (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) serves as the gateway to government medical colleges in India. To pass through this gateway, candidates need to achieve a minimum score known as the NEET Cutoff, Qualifying Marks, or Passing Marks. This score determines eligibility for admission to medical courses in the country.

The NEET UG cutoff score is crucial as it decides whether a candidate can participate in the counselling process for MBBS/BDS/AYUSH courses in top medical colleges across India. Although the official NEET 2024 cutoff will be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) along with the NEET 2024 Result, we can provide an analysis of expected cutoffs based on trends from previous years and expert predictions, including breakdowns by category.

Factors Affecting NEET UG Cut Off 2024

NEET UG cut off score or the NEET passing marks vary every year, depending upon several factors, including:

  • Total number of applicants
  • Difficulty level of the exam
  • Total number of available seats

How to Calculate NEET Cut Off 2024

There's no direct formula to calculate NEET cut off.  The National Testing Agency (NTA) determines the NEET cut-off marks after the exam is conducted, based on several factors. These factors include:

  • The total number of students who took the exam
  • The difficulty level of that particular NEET exam
  • The number of seats available in medical colleges across India

Since these factors vary from year to year, the NEET cut-off marks also change.

NEET 2024 Result Date

NTA will declare the NEET 2024 result on June 14, 2024. The official NEET qualifying marks will be announced along with the NEET UG 2024 result.

Old NEET Tie Breaking Rule: Previously, NTA used scores in Biology (Zoology and Botany), Chemistry, and Physics sequentially for tie-breaking. If a tie persisted, negative marks were considered, followed by age, with the older candidate ranked higher.

New NEET Tie Breaking Rule: Under the new rule, candidates with higher marks in Biology followed by Chemistry and then Physics will be given priority for tie-breaking. If the tie still remains, eligible candidates will be chosen through a computer-generated draw without human intervention.

NEET candidates need to understand the difference between NEET Cut Off and NEET Admission Cut Off:

NEET Cut Off: This refers to the minimum marks a candidate needs to score in their respective category to qualify for the exam. This percentile makes the candidate eligible to participate in state and central counseling processes for admission to medical colleges. The NEET qualifying percentile is determined by the NTA.

NEET Admission Cut Off: On the other hand, NEET Admission Cut Off is the minimum marks or scores that NEET-qualified candidates must secure to gain admission into an MBBS or BDS course in a specific medical or dental college in India. The NEET admission cut off is released by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) and state conducting authorities.
