Tamil Nadu Board Update : Career Guidance Classes Begin in TN Govt Schools for Class 11, 12 Students
Career guidance classes for Class 11 and Class 12 students across government schools in Tamil Nadu have begun. These classes have been introduced to help students with self-assessment.
“The school education department has already trained 3,600 teachers across 38 districts and we will be providing proper guidance to students according to the merits and demerits of each student,” M Aravindan, a teacher at a government school in Tiruchy said. The department has also launched a book that includes everything on careers.
This initiative is a part of the 'Naan Mudhalvan' scheme launched by the Tamil Nadu government earlier this year to focus on students who have completed their Class 12 education in the 2022-23 academic year and are yet to seek admissions in higher education institutions.
The department is also planning to conduct similar classes for students in Classes 9 and 10 to help them pick streams or courses for higher secondary education. With hi-tech labs in schools, the institution can help students apply for college from next year, said an official.
Aravindan also said that the State Council for School Education and Training (SCERT) has trained 152 District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) teachers who have acted as the key resource persons for the project. "The response has been overwhelming and we expect that poor government school students are benefitted," said school education department official KR Marimuthu.
In addition to these initiatives, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department (TNSED) is promoting various activities on art and culture in government schools that include workshops on various art forms that are conducted periodically. The ‘Puthumai Penn Thittam’ scheme provides a monthly amount of Rs 1,000 to all girl students of government schools for higher education to ensure they do not drop out after schooling.
