A major update regarding the NEET UG 2026 examination has emerged for students. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced during a press conference that, in light of the recent paper leak incident, the NEET examination will be conducted entirely online and in a computer-based mode starting next year.
Instead of OMR sheets, students will be seated in front of computers to ensure transparency. Following the cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has now announced a new date for the re-examination.
According to the agency, the examination will now be held on June 21, 2026. Sharing this information on the social media platform 'X', the NTA stated that the decision to conduct the re-examination was taken following approval from the Government of India.
Additionally, candidates and their parents have been urged to rely solely on the NTA's official website for any information.
Exams to be Conducted Online Instead of Using OMR Sheets
Meanwhile, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan clarified several points before the media during a press conference. Foremost among these, he announced that—in light of the recent paper leak episode—the NEET examination will be conducted entirely online and be computer-based starting next year. Instead of using OMR sheets, students will be seated before computers to ensure transparency.
Dharmendra Pradhan stated, "The NTA has announced the new date for the NEET UG examination. The re-examination will be held on June 21. Our priority is the future of the students." He further added, "Previously, the examination was held on May 3; by May 7, certain concerns were raised within the NTA's complaint redressal system, prompting an internal inquiry."
Subsequently, the matter was handed over to the relevant agencies, a process involving several states. By May 12, the situation regarding this case had become clear. By that date, we had ascertained that "guess papers"—circulated through the nexus of the "education mafia"—bore a striking resemblance to the actual question paper administered during the examination.
Re-exam on June 21; Admit Cards on June 14
He further stated, "We do not wish to compromise the future of the students. Therefore, we have set June 21 as the new date for the examination. Admit cards for this will be issued on June 14. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding irregularities. Action by the CBI has commenced, and the battle against the 'exam mafia' is underway."
No Fee for Re-exam; Choice of Exam Center Available
Pradhan remarked, "The NTA was constituted in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Court and operates under very competent leadership. Every year, 10 million candidates appear for NTA examinations.
On the day the NEET exam was cancelled, the NTA took two key decisions: firstly, the examination fee for the NET (graduate-level) exam would be refunded; and secondly, no fee would be charged for the re-examination. The NTA will issue a separate notification regarding this by this evening."
He further informed that candidates would be given the opportunity to select a city of their choice to appear for the re-examination. A window of one week will be provided for this purpose. Additionally, students will be allotted an extra 15 minutes to fill in their details on the OMR sheets.
