CBSE Instructs Schools to Complete Registrations for Class 9 & 11 till August 15

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a notification regarding the change in schedule for admission to classes 9 and 11 in all its affiliated schools. Board has asked all its schools to manage the admissions in class 9 and class 11 for current academic session, till August 15. However, beyond 15th, all cases of admission to these two classes will be managed by the board itself. In that case, schools will have to send all the details of such cases to the concerned Regional Office.

CBSE has notified that the schedule has been revised only for seven categories, which are:

• Shifting of family
• Shifting to hostel
• Shifting from Hostel
• Readmission in other schools after failing in these two classes
• Better education
• Long distance
• Medical ground

The board had earlier announced the changes in norms for admission to class 9 and class 11 in 2020. In order to regulate the admissions to these two classes, board has decided to take over the whole admission process.

Under the new set of laws, if a candidate wishes to take admission in a CBSE school in class 9 and 11, he/she will have to substantiate reasons behind the change. The board has formulated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for admissions to these classes. However, principals and teachers are criticising this decision of board to interfere into the school’s admission policies. Many of them termed the new CBSE norm as unnecessary intervention.

Parents are also not in support of these new clauses for admission as they found them to be more complicated and unrealistic. For example, if a student wants to take admission in any of classes 9 and 11 in a CBSE- affiliated school citing better education facilities then his/her parents will be required to submit the application along with the last five years’ result stats of both the schools- one in which their ward is currently studying and the one in which they seek admission. Qualification and teaching experience of the staff members of both the schools will also have to be submitted at the same time.

Board officials marked that the new admission rules will be effective to streamline the process and make sure that only “genuine students” get admissions.

The changed rules, however, will be implemented from the academic year 2020-2021, whereas those seeking change in school can do so in the current year as per the present rules.
