NEET 2018 - Dress code & Exam Pattern
Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj (Director, NEET) took a live session on AIR FM Rainbow on exam day instructions. Several frequently asked questions of NEET 2018 were solved, from dress code to exam pattern. CBSE had widely notified on May 3, for students to tune into AIR FM Rainbow to listen to the live broadcast from 1 PM to 2 PM on May 4.
To start with, Dr. Bhardwaj said that candidates may note that NEET 2018 exam patternand syllabus are exactly same as last year. There will be 90 questions on biology and 45 questions each in physics and chemistry.Four marks will be awarded for a correct answer. Candidates are also requested to note that there is negative marking of 1 mark for every incorrect answer.
Exam timings are 10 AM to 1 PM. However students should take note of the reporting time which is mentioned in their NEET 2018 Admit Card. There are two slots for reporting; one is from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM and second is from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. There is no entry in exam hall after 9:30 AM.
Candidates must reach on time. To avoid delays candidates are strictly advised to visit the centre once before day of exam; that way they will know the exact centre location and be able to reach it on time.
At the exam centre, students will only be allowed to take admit card and photograph, no other thing at all. Photograph should be same as used in application form. Students must not carry anything else as there will be no provision to keep their belongings anywhere.
With regards to dress code of NEET 2018, Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj explained that the dress code is in place to make frisking process quicker and hassle free for students. If a student wears light clothes which are easily friskable then there will no problem at all. However clothes in which frisking will take time will lead to long waiting time and issues; for example if there are 500 students at a centre and even one minute has to be given to each, then frisking alone will take 8 hours!
So to avoid all that, candidates should wear light clothes. Candidates should also bring a photo for attendance sheet. They should not carry anything even like keys as there is no provision to keep things anywhere at centre.
Coming back to dress code, as it has caused a lot of confusion among students, Dr Bhardwaj advices students to wear half-sleeved clothes. Regarding jeans he said that you may wear them but light ones.
Regarding mehendi, he said that that is allowed. Students may carry small amounts of money. Aadhaar card is not allowed or required at centre. Female students may have juda (bun) hairstyle, as long as it does not cause problem in checking.
Kada is allowed. Also eye glasses are allowed if your eyesight is weak. Candidates must otherwise avoid any other metal item.
Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj advices that students should attempt that section first which they are strong in. if anyone suffers from migraine then they should take medicines before coming. If there is any problem in OMR then it will be changed, he added.
Students should visit centre today so that on 6 May 2018, they are easily able to reach it without any hassles. Participate in activities that de-stress you so that you can sit for the exam with a calm and confident mind. Best wishes to all NEET 2018 aspirants! NEET 2018 result will be announced on June 5.

Purpose of NEET 2018 Dress Code
CBSE has outlined the dress code for NEET 2018. In addition, there is also a list of barred items. So if any barred item includes accessories or are a wearable thing, then you cannot have those also.
You can wear
- Light clothes with half sleeves
- Salwar
- Trouser
- Slippers
- Sandals with low heels
That’s it. This is all that you can wear.
In simple terms, on the upper half of your body, you can only wear a half sleeved dress which is light. In the lower half you can only wear salwar or trouser. And on feet you can only wear slippers or sandals. You cannot and should not wear anything except these.
You cannot even wear shoes.
Oh, and also your dress should not have big buttons or brooches or badges.
All this might seem too strict, but it is only for the benefit of students.
In many entrance exams, cases of cheating are found where students hide chits or notes in jeans, frilly clothes, sleeves of shirts, sole of shoes. All these dresses that are allowed by CBSE are those in which it is difficult to hide anything.
Considering that the exam is in the month of May, when the temperature is quite high, it is also convenient to wear half sleeved clothes. Big buttons or brooches or badges are often used to hide communication devices, so those are also banned.
