The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the datesheet for the 2026 Class 10 and 12 board exams. While the exam dates are spread over seven weeks and appear systematic at first glance, some aspects of the datesheet have raised questions from students, parents, and teachers. In particular, the short gap between key subjects has caused concern among students.

Concerns for Class 10 Students
According to the datesheet released by the Bihar Board, Class 10 students will have exams for language subjects such as Urdu Course A, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Manipuri, and Telugu-Telanga on February 24, 2026, while the Science paper will be held on February 25, 2026. This has caused major concern as students will not have a single day's break for the Science exam. Consequently, the short gap between these subjects may pose difficulties for students.
A Class 10 student wrote on social media, "The Punjabi exam is the day before the Science exam, leaving no preparation time. Please reconsider this."
Furthermore, the Social Science exam is scheduled right after language subjects like Sindhi, Malayalam, Odia, Assamese, Kannada, and Kokborok, leaving students with little time for revision.
Class 12 Students' Concerns
Class 12 students have also voiced their opposition to the datesheet. They say the Physics exam is scheduled after Physical Education, preventing students from having time to focus on a relatively difficult subject like Physics.
One student said, "The Physics exam is the day after the Physical Education exam, leaving very little preparation time. An intensive subject like Physics should have at least a day's break."
Furthermore, the Economics exam is scheduled immediately after the language exam, leaving no time for revision. Given the analytical nature of Economics and its heavy syllabus, students are feeling additional pressure.
Education Experts' Opinion
Education experts believe that CBSE aims to create a logical balance between students' various subjects, but this type of "back-to-back" schedule risks increasing stress levels among students. A school principal said, "Lack of preparation in core subjects like Science, Social Science, Physics, and Economics can impact students' performance. Even a one-day gap in preparation can make a big difference."
Advice for Students
Bihar Board students are advised not to focus solely on day-to-day gaps but to focus on long-term preparation strategies. Students are advised to revise regularly to avoid any exam date clashes.
Impact of JEE Main 2026 and Other Entrance Exams
The datesheet released by CBSE took into account major entrance exams like JEE Main, so that 12th-grade students do not suffer any disadvantages. However, the dates for JEE Main 2026 are yet to be announced, raising concerns that there could be a clash between the board exam and the engineering entrance exam.
