Maharashtra Board to Merge HSC & SSC Marksheet with Certificate: QR Code & Photo for Instant Verification – Big Reform
In a major reform, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has decided to merge the marksheet and certificate into a single document for both HSC (Class 12) and SSC (Class 10) students. For the first time, student photographs will be printed on the document, along with a unique QR code for instant verification through the state board's official app.
This is a significant change that will benefit over 31.5 lakh students who appeared for HSC and SSC exams this year — over 15 lakh for HSC and over 16.5 lakh for SSC. This batch will be the first to receive the new marksheet-cum-certificate.
What's Changing?
Until now, MSBSHSE used to issue two separate documents — the marksheet at the time of result and the certificate after six months. Neither document carried the student's photograph or a QR code for verification. This old system often led to issues with fake marksheets and made the verification process time-consuming.
Under the new system, both documents will be combined into a single A4-size marksheet-cum-certificate. It will include the student's photograph, complete exam details, and a unique QR code. The A4 size has been chosen to ensure easy storage and record-keeping, as it's the standard size used for files.
QR Code for Instant Verification
One of the biggest highlights of this reform is the unique QR code on the new document. Anyone can scan this QR code using the official Maharashtra State Board mobile app to instantly verify the student's marks and the authenticity of the document.
MSBSHSE Chairman Trigun Kulkarni explained that having a QR code completely eliminates the possibility of fake marksheets. Earlier, anyone who wanted to verify a marksheet had to approach the board directly. Now, verification can happen instantly through a simple scan. This makes the process faster, easier, and fully transparent.
Student Photo on Marksheet for the First Time
For the first time, the student's photograph will be printed on the marksheet-cum-certificate. This ensures clear identification and prevents misuse of documents. The board already collects student photographs at the time of application, which are printed on hall tickets. So, there's no need to collect photos separately.
However, circulars have been issued to school principals to verify that each student's name and photograph are correct. A facility is available on the official MSBSHSE website for schools to make corrections in both photos and names before the documents are printed.
Name Format Changed to Match Aadhaar
Another important change is in the format of the candidate's name on the marksheet-cum-certificate. Earlier, the name was printed starting with the surname, followed by the student's name and father's name. Now, the name will follow the format on the Aadhaar card.
Chairman Kulkarni explained that the government had already issued guidelines on this change because differences between the name format on Board marksheets and Aadhaar cards were causing technical issues for students during admissions and other processes.
Cost Savings for the Board
The new system is also expected to reduce printing costs significantly for the Maharashtra State Board. Since two documents are being merged into one, there will be a substantial reduction in expenditure. Tenders have already been issued for the new printing process.
