On Monday 7 June, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banarjee announced exam cancellation for class 10th and 12th for the year 2021.
The exam cancellation decision was taken by the experts committee and the public opinion. In the West Bengal state 80% of the public were in support of the exam cancellation.
In a press conference West Bengal CM said that the government has received 34 thousand emails and 79% of them suggested that the Madhyamik examination should be discarded and 83% were against the HS exam. In that conference she said the decision has been taken after consultation with the committee recommendation and the public opinion.
On Sunday 6 June, Bengal CM tweeted “Our children's future is my greatest priority. To this regard, we have formed an expert committee to decide over holding the Class 10th & 12th board exams in 2021.
We are also inviting views & opinion from parents, general public, sector experts, civil society & students.”
West Bengal Board Exam Evaluation Criteria
CM Mamta Banarjee announced that the evaluation for HS Madhyamik will be fixed by two boards after consultation with experts and the education department. Also the evaluation criteria for both the boards will be announced within 7 days.
After the decision taken by the Center on June 1st, to cancel the board exam 2021, other states started cancelling their states board exams as well. Several states including Odisha, UP, MP, etc cancelled their board exam in the view of COVID-19 situation.
