IIM Calcutta Allows MBA Students to Pursue Startups While Retaining Placement Eligibility
An initiative has been launched at the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta, allowing its MBA students to indulge in entrepreneurial activities without giving up campus placements eligibility permanently, according to a release issued by the institute on Saturday.
The announcement came at a ceremony held on Friday when 480 students were inducted to IIM-Calcutta's 63rd batch of MBA studies.
Speaking at the ceremony, IIM-Calcutta Director Alok Kumar Rai stated that students choosing entrepreneurship over campus placement can get back into the institute's placement process the next year if they wish to do so after spending one year in developing a start-up.
As per the figures provided in the release, the percentage of male students is 67, while female students constitute 33 per cent of the batch; 41 per cent are freshers, whereas 59 per cent have prior experience in their respective fields.
Engineering students make up 54.7 per cent of the total batch members, followed by Commerce (11.5 per cent), Science (10.27 per cent), Arts (10 per cent); students belonging to other disciplines form the remaining part of the batch.
Among others attending the Freshers' Welcome ceremony was Ganesh Mohan, Managing Director of Bajaj Finserv Asset Management Ltd and an alumnus of the institute.
Also attending the ceremony was Pranav Adani, the managing director of Adani Enterprises, who announced the extension of the Adani Accelerated Leadership Programme, where under which six most outstanding MBA students of IIM-Calcutta get full scholarship for their next two years. An MoU was also signed between the Adani Group and IIM-Calcutta to continue their cooperation; and the Adani group donated 200 bicycles to MBA students to improve mobility in campus.
