JEE Main 2026 Result: Expected JEE Advanced Cutoff This Year; Check Category-Wise Analysis
Students who appeared for JEE Main 2026 between April 2 and 8 can expect a slight increase in the cutoff this year. Overall, the papers were moderately difficult compared to last year. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will announce the official cutoff along with the final JEE Main results.
Education experts and analysts say the cutoff is likely to stay in line with recent trends, given the moderate difficulty of the physics and chemistry sections.
JEE Main 2026 Expected Cutoff — As Per Experts
| Category | Expected Cutoff Percentile |
|---|---|
| General | 93.1 – 94.2 |
| OBC-NCL | 79 – 80 |
| EWS | 80 – 82 |
| SC | 60 – 62 |
| ST | 47 – 49 |
| PwD | 0.001 – 0.010 |
"These estimates are based on trends from the last two admission cycles. The cutoff is only the gateway — students targeting strong branches in top NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs should aim well above these numbers," an education expert noted.
What the Exam Tested This Year
In the first paper of the B.Tech/B.E. examination, greater emphasis was placed on consistency and a strong foundation of basic knowledge rather than on the level of difficulty. Students who possessed a firm grasp of NCERT concepts, practiced regularly, and prepared equally across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics gained a distinct advantage.
JEE Main 2026 Expected Cutoff - Analyst Estimates
Senior analysts and IIT alumni state that the cutoff depends on key factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the total number of candidates, and overall performance trends. Their estimates are as follows:
| Category | Expected Percentile | Safe Score (out of 300) |
|---|---|---|
| General | 93.5 – 95.0 | 140+ |

| SC | 61.0 – 63.0 | 60+ |
| ST | 48.0 – 51.0 | 45+ |
Experts also suggest that the cutoff for EWS candidates could stabilize around 81–83 percent, depending on how the overall results turn out.
Class 12 Eligibility Requirement
To qualify for JEE Advanced, candidates must also fulfill the requirements of their Class 12 board examinations. General and OBC candidates require an aggregate score of at least 75%, while SC, ST, and PwD candidates require a minimum of 65%.
