The Odisha government has taken a big decision regarding school education. Now the children of class 5th and 8th in the state will have to take exams at the end of the year, and those who do not pass will be failed. Changes in the Odisha Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2010 This decision was formally implemented on 9 July.
According to the report of TOI, according to the notification issued by the School and Mass Education Department, students who fail in these annual examinations will be given 'remedial classes' i.e. special education within two months. After this, the examination will be taken again. If the children do not pass in that too, then they will be held back in the same class.
However, the government has made it clear that no student will be expelled from school before completing primary education. That is, even if the child fails, he will not be expelled from school, but will not be sent to the next class.
Odisha Board: New Rule Added
This decision has been taken after the 2019 education law amendment of the Central Government, in which the states were given the right to evaluate the students and stop them if needed. Under this, the Odisha government has added a new rule 14A in its education rules, which explains in detail under which circumstances a child can be prevented from going to the next class.
This step is exactly opposite to the old 'no-detention policy', in which children were sent to the next class without passing so that they do not get cut off from studies. But now the government has made it clear by taking a strict stand on studies.
