The products that affect health and safety of consumers or the products of mass consumption, it is mandatory on the part of producers to get certified by these  organizations.(LPG Cylinders, food colours and additives, cement, packaged drinking water etc.)

A maximum retail price (MRP) is a manufacturer calculated price that is the highest price that can be charged for a product sold in India and Bangladesh. However, retailers may choose to sell products for less than the MRP.

Right to Information (RTI) is an Act of the Parliament of India to provide for setting out the practical regime of the right to information for citizens and replaces the erstwhile Freedom of information Act, 2002. Under the provisions of the Act, any citizen of India may request information from a "public authority" (a body of Government or "instrumentality of State") which is required to reply expeditiously or within thirty days.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national Standards Body of India working under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. It is established by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 which came into effect on 23rd December 1986.

The National Consumer Day is observed every year in India on 24^th of December every year. On this day the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 had received the assent of the President.

Consumers participate in the market when they purchase goods and services that they need.These are final goods that people as a consumers use.

Adulteration means mixing something impure with genuine, or an inferior article with a superior one of the same kind. It is a legal term meaning that a food product fails to meet legal standards. One form of adulteration is an addition of another substance to a food item in order to increase the quantity of the food item in raw form or prepared form, which may result in the loss of actual quality of food item.

The main reason for exploitation of consumers is lack of knowledge and ignorance. Several consumers do not have the knowledge about the price, quality, services related commodities.

Consumer Protection Act, 1986 is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted in 1986 to protect the interests of consumers in India. It makes provision for the establishment of consumer councils and other authorities for the settlement of consumers' disputes and for matters connected therewith also.

consumers have the right to be informed about the particulars of goods and services that they purchase. Consumers can then complain and ask for compensation or replacement if the product proves to be defective in any manner.
