Richard M. Hoe, the inventor of power driven cylinderical press was the citizen of USA. The main feature of his press was that it was capable of printing 8000 sheets per hour.

In England popular books were sold at cheap prices known as Shilling series. These were sold by pedlars in 1920s.

Offset press was developed in the late nineteenth century. This press had a feature of printing up to six colours at a time.

The first Tamil book was printed by Catholic priests in the year 1579 at Cochin.

Catholic Priests who printed the first Tamil book also printed first Malayalam book in the year 1713.

Sambad kaumudi was published by Rammohan Roy from the year 1821.This was published in order to reach a wider audience.

Shamsul Akhbar , a persian newspaper was published from the year 1822 along with another persian newspaper Jam-i-Jahan Nama.

Bombay Samachar made its appearance in the year 1822. It was established by Fardunjee Marzban.

The Bombay Samachar now Mumbai Samachar is the oldest continuously published newspaper in India. A weekly till 1832, a bi-weekly till 1855 and a daily since then, it continued to grow and has gone on to become one of Western India's premier newspapers.
