Big Announcement by CBSE! Schools to Adopt Regional Languages as Medium of Instruction
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a significant step towards promoting multilingual education in India. In accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, CBSE has urged schools to consider using Indian languages as the medium of instruction. This move aims to align education with the rich diversity of regional languages in the country.
CBSE has issued a notice to school heads, encouraging them to adopt regional languages as the medium of instruction from the Foundational Stage to the end of the Secondary Stage, covering pre-primary classes to Class 12th.
The board acknowledges that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is working on developing new textbooks in 22 scheduled Indian languages. Additionally, higher education teaching methodologies are also being envisioned through Indian languages. Thus, imparting school education in regional languages becomes crucial to synchronize with these developments.
"The Ministry of Education has directed NCERT to prepare new textbooks in 22 scheduled Indian languages, and NCERT is taking this task seriously to make these textbooks available to all students from the next sessions," stated CBSE.
According to the CBSE notice, affiliated schools have the option to use Indian languages listed in Schedule 8 of the Indian Constitution as the medium of instruction alongside existing options. The move aims to create a conducive environment for students to learn in their native language and promote a multilingual approach to education.
In light of these initiatives, CBSE encourages schools to explore available resources, seek expert advice, and collaborate with other institutions to share best practices. The ultimate goal is to make multilingual education a reality in CBSE schools, celebrating India's linguistic diversity and empowering students to excel in their education journey.
