CBSE, the country's largest education board, has made a big announcement for school students. Now from the year 2026, the class 10 board examination will be conducted in two phases.

The board's examination controller Sanyam Bhardwaj has officially confirmed this. He said that this decision has been taken with the aim of giving more flexibility and opportunity to the students, so that they feel less pressure of the examination and get a chance to perform at their best.

According to the new rules, the first phase will be in February and attendance of all the students will be mandatory in it. At the same time, the second phase will be conducted in May, in which participation will depend on the wish of the students.

That is, if a student is not satisfied with his performance in the first time, then he can improve his marks by taking the exam again.

Students will get a chance to improve marks

Students can improve their marks in any three subjects from science, mathematics, social science and languages. The results of both the phases will also be declared at different times. The result of the examination held in February will come in April and the result of the May examination will come in June. The advantage of this will be that students will be able to improve their marks in the same academic session, which will not waste time. The board has also clarified that the evaluation will be done only once in the whole year. This decision has been taken to simplify the evaluation system and avoid repetition.

This initiative of CBSE is in line with the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020), which aims to reduce the excessive pressure of board examinations. Also, schools where the pattern of studies is different due to winter will be given the freedom to choose either of the two phases.

Suggestions were sought earlier

The board had made the draft of this policy public in February and suggestions were also sought from all stakeholders. Now after getting formal approval, this change will be implemented from the board examinations of 2026. This is a big relief news for the students and parents, who have been under stress for a long time regarding the board examination. This step of CBSE is an important initiative towards making India's examination system more modern and tolerant.
