JEE 2026: IIT Roorkee Says No Relaxation in 75% Attendance Rule - Check Full Details

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) kicked off the JEE counselling 2026 on June 2, following their official calendar. IIT Roorkee had let out the results for the JEE Advanced on June 1, showing that 56,880 candidates qualified this year.

With CBSE's On-Screen Marking system raising concerns over how they evaluate Class 12 students, many young folks are asking for a one-time exemption from the standard 75 percent requirement to get into IITs, NITs, and other state-backed tech colleges.

Students and parents have been really active with this request on social media. A bunch of teens made it to top ranks in JEE but fell short of the required percentage in their boards—by a bit here and there. Most of them blame inconsistencies with the new evaluation methods.

ANI talked to IIT Roorkee, who shot down the idea of an exception to the norms. Still, they said the school is in touch with CBSE to address the issues.

The rules can't change, said IIT Roorkee. Participants come from 36 different boards in the JEE Advanced, so keeping the current criteria is necessary. This setup was decided back in December, and just last year, many students missed out on spots at IITs and NITs because of these cutoffs. Why make an exception now?

IIT Roorkee is in charge of JEE Advanced 2026. They handle everything—administering the test, releasing scores, and managing admissions through the Joint Admission Board (JAB).

Currently, a candidate needs either 75% in their board exams or must be in the top 20% of their specific educational board’s qualifiers to secure an IIT spot through JEE Advanced results.

There's a similar condition for entering NITs, IIITs, and other federally sponsored institutes using JEE Main scores. Authorities reinstated this regulation after briefly easing up during the pandemic.

Amidst all this, CBSE is facing flak over various grievances related to their assessments. Tons of teenagers have submitted requests for cross-checking of their grades, a peek at marked answer sheets, and even revaluation of results.
