The Supreme Court has agreed to review a plea about reducing the number of attempts for JEE-Advanced from three to two.
The petitioner's lawyer told a bench of Justices B. R. Gavai and Augustine George Masih that this case is about the IIT entrance exam, where the number of attempts was suddenly reduced.
The petition, filed by advocate Sanjeet Kumar Trivedi, argues that the Joint Admission Board (JAB), which runs JEE-Advanced, changed the rules unfairly. According to the plea, JAB first said in a press release on November 5, 2024, that students could attempt JEE-Advanced three times. However, just a few days later, on November 18, 2024, they announced that the attempts would be cut to two.
The petition says this sudden change was unfair and harmed many students planning to appear for JEE-Advanced 2025. The petitioners want the court to cancel the November 18 announcement and allow these students another opportunity.
The Supreme Court has decided to hear this case and another similar case already scheduled for review.
