What Is a Good Score in JEE Main 2026?
There’s no single answer to this question – it depends on what you’re aiming for. Here’s a practical breakdown:
| Marks Range | Percentile | What It Means for You |
| 280 – 300 | 99.99 – 100 | Top ranks – strong chance at top IITs through JEE Advanced |
| 250 – 280 | 99.9+ | Excellent score – eligible for top NITs and JEE Advanced |
| 200 – 250 | 99.5+ | Very good – admission to good NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs |
| 150 – 200 | 97 – 99 | Good score – decent NIT branches and state-level colleges |
| 100 – 150 | 93 – 97 | Above average – qualifying for JoSAA counselling |
| Below 100 | Below 93 | May not qualify for top colleges – consider Session 2 |
Bottom Line: If you’re targeting top NITs, aim for 200+ marks (99.5+ percentile). For JEE Advanced eligibility, you’ll typically need to be in the top 2.5 lakh ranks.

JEE Main Cut-Off Trends: Previous Years' Data
Looking at past cut-off trends is one of the best ways to predict what might happen this year. Here's a look at the category-wise JEE Main cut-offs over the last five years.
| Category | 2025 | 2024 | 2023 | 2022 | 2021 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| General | 93.10 | 93.23 | 90.78 | 88.41 | 87.90 |
| EWS | 80.38 | 81.32 | 75.62 | 63.11 | 66.22 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 79.43 | 79.67 | 73.61 | 67.01 | 68.02 |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 61.15 | 60.09 | 51.98 | 43.08 | 46.88 |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 47.90 | 46.69 | 37.23 | 26.78 | 34.67 |
A clear pattern shows that cut-offs have been rising steadily over the years, especially for the General and EWS categories. This trend suggests that competition is getting tougher each year.
What Happens After the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Result?
Once the Session 1 result is out, here’s what comes next:
Scorecard Release: NTA will publish individual scorecards showing your percentile, subject-wise scores, and overall rank.

- Session 2 registration is already open on jeemain.nta.nic.in.
- You can appear for Session 2 even if you’ve already taken Session 1.
- NTA will consider the better percentile from the two sessions for your final rank.
