Documents Required for JEE Main 2026 Registration - Step by Step Guide

NTA has released the documents required for JEE Main 2026 registration along with a brochure.

According to the notification, this year, there are some important changes you need to know about. If you're not using Aadhaar or DigiLocker, you'll need to upload a soft copy of your identity card. PwD Candidates can now provide either a UDID card or a Disability certificate.

You must upload your Class 10 certificate. This is mandatory for everyone.

The authorities have started JEE Main 2026 registration from October 31, 2025, and the last date to apply is November 27, 2025.

The complete list of documents required for JEE Main 2026 registration has been updated at jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Important Update: Aadhaar-Based Auto-Fill Feature

NTA has also issued an advisory on updating the Aadhar, UDID and category certificates ahead of the JEE Main 2026 registration process. 

• Candidate's Name
• Date of Birth
• Gender
• Photograph
• Address

This means candidates applying through Aadhaar may not need to upload their photo separately, as it will be automatically fetched from the UIDAI database.

Essential Documents for All Candidates:

• Aadhaar Card - For identity verification and auto-fill details
• Class 10 Certificate/Marksheet - Proof of date of birth and basic qualification
• Class 12 Admit Card/Marksheet - For students appearing in or who have passed Class 12 in 2024, 2025, or 2026
• Passport-size Photograph - Recent colored or black-and-white photo

Category-Specific Documents:

• Caste Certificate (for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates) - Certificate details required, but upload not mandatory

• EWS Certificate (Economically Weaker Section): Applying under EWS? Make sure you have your certificate number handy. You'll need to fill in this along with other details mentioned in your EWS Certificate.

• Disability Certificate & UDID Card: Candidates with disabilities must upload their PwD/Disability Certificate - this is mandatory. Also, check that your UDID Card hasn't expired. If it has, get it renewed before you apply.
   
• Identity Proof - Only if not using Aadhaar or DigiLocker (Voter ID, Passport, etc.)

Important Note: General category candidates only need to upload their photograph, signature, and Class 10 certificate.

Size Specifications for JEE Main 2026 Documents

NTA has specified exact file size and format requirements for each document. Make sure you follow these guidelines carefully:

Updated Specifications for 2026:

• Signature file: Between 10 KB to 100 KB (changed from previous year)
• Class 10 marksheet: Between 50 KB to 300 KB
• Identity proof: Between 10 KB to 200 KB (for non-Aadhaar users)
• Disability/UDID certificate: PDF format, 50 KB to 300 KB

Photography and Signature Guidelines for JEE Main 2026

Photograph Requirements:

• Recent passport-sized colored or black-and-white photograph
• White background (plain)
• 80% face visible, including ears
• No mask should be worn
• Glasses are acceptable, but sunglasses are not allowed
• Head coverings only permitted for religious reasons
• No caps or hats (except for religious purposes)
• Photo should be clear, sharp, and in focus
• Out-of-focus or unclear photos will be rejected

• Must be done on plain white paper using black or blue ink

• Save photograph file as 'Photograph.jpg' or 'Photograph.jpeg'
• Save signature file as 'Signature.jpg' or 'Signature.jpeg'
• Save Class 10 certificate as 'Class-X Certificate.pdf'
• Save disability certificate as 'Disability Certificate.pdf'

1. Do not upload blurred or dark images - Ensure good lighting and clarity
2. Use updated browser - Chrome, Firefox, or Edge recommended
3. Stable internet connection - Avoid upload errors due to connectivity issues
4. Check file size before uploading - Use online tools to compress if needed
5. Preview before final submission - Review all uploaded documents
6. Save all files as backup - Keep copies for future reference

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

• Uploading photos with colored backgrounds
• Using old or outdated photographs
• Uploading signature in incorrect format

What Happens If You Upload Wrong Documents?

Uploading incorrect documents can have serious consequences:

• Application Rejection: Your form may be rejected if documents don't meet specifications
• UFM Penalties: Using someone else's photograph, signature, or tampered documents can lead to Unfair Means (UFM) penalties
• Disqualification: Discovered fraud at any stage can result in permanent disqualification
• No Correction Window: The correction facility may not allow document re-upload
• Loss of Application Fee: Your fee won't be refunded if the form is rejected

Aadhaar Matching Requirements

Candidates must ensure their Aadhaar card details match perfectly with their Class 10 certificate. The following details should be identical:
