NCERT Approves Equivalence for Board Exams Class 10 and 12 Certificates Nationwide

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced that Class 10 and 12 certificates issued by various school education boards in India will now be granted equivalence.

The aim is to provide equal opportunities to students for admission to higher education institutions and recruitment to government jobs. This information was provided by officials on Friday.

Notification and Background

This new notification has been published in the e-Gazette by the School Education & Literacy Department of the Ministry of Education. It replaces the previous notification dated November 15, 2021, in which this responsibility was previously assigned to the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

NCERT's Role and Process

According to the Ministry of Education, NCERT will conduct this process through the National Assessment Centre for Research in Education (PARAKH). PARAKH aims to review and evaluate students' knowledge, performance, and overall development.

• NCERT will ensure that equivalence determination is done through a robust and academically rigorous process.
• This process is designed to maintain the highest educational standards.

Where will the new system apply?

The new system will apply to acts of the Central Government, State Governments, Parliament or State Legislatures, executive orders, and recognized private Indian school boards.

This will ensure automatic inter-board equivalence between all school boards.

Students who wish to transfer from one board to another will have a simple and uniform process.
