The Indian education system is going through a big transformation. NCERT has made major updates for the 2025-26 academic year. These changes follow the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023.

These aren't small changes. The entire structure of what students learn and how they're assessed has been updated. From new "Swadeshi" modules to vocational training from Class 6, students need to prepare for a completely different learning experience before 2026.

Major Changes in History Syllabus

NCERT has made significant changes to the History curriculum. The goal is to provide a more balanced view of India's past.

Large portions of the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal era have been restructured or removed. The new syllabus now focuses more on:

  • India's ancient history
  • Contributions of tribal communities
  • Achievements of Indian scientists throughout history

This shift aims to give students a broader understanding of India's rich heritage.

New Section: A Note on History's Darker Period

The Class 8 Social Science textbook has a unique new feature. The book "Exploring Society, India and Beyond" includes a special section. This section helps students understand "darker periods" of history.

Here's what this section covers:

Purpose Description
Context Without Bias Explains sensitive themes without ideological influence
Objective Analysis Teaches students how to analyze conflicts and historical struggles fairly
Integrated Learning Connects geography, economics, and governance with historical events from 13th to mid-19th century

Vocational Education Now Starts from Class 6

This is one of the biggest changes. Vocational subjects are now introduced from Class 6 itself. Earlier, skill-based education was optional and available only in higher classes.

Now students will get foundational exposure to various skills and trades early on. The aim is to combine practical knowledge with theoretical learning. This makes skill-based education a core part of the student's journey.

New Modules: Operation Sindoor and Swadeshi

NCERT has introduced two new modules to build patriotism and national awareness among students.

Operation Sindoor Module

This module is available for students from Class 3 to Class 12. It covers the following:

Topic Details
What It Covers Combined military and patriotic effort to maintain peace
Tribute Pays respect to victims of Pahalgam terror incident
Purpose Serves as supplementary resource for national security education

Swadeshi Module

A new Swadeshi Module has been launched for middle and secondary school students. This module aligns with the "Vocal for Local" initiative.

Focus Area Description
Support Indian Products Encourages students to buy India-made goods
Atmanirbharta Highlights importance of self-reliance for national progress
Global Standing Shows how self-reliance helps India's position in the world

Bridge Programmes for Smooth Transition

NCERT understands that sudden changes can overwhelm students. That's why they've introduced "Bridge Programmes" for key transition grades.

These programmes are available for:

  • Class 1
  • Class 3
  • Class 5
  • Class 6
  • Class 8

Bridge Programmes act as a stepping stone between the old framework and new NEP-aligned content. They ensure students have the necessary foundational knowledge for the updated textbooks.
