The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced that the two-level system of Maths Standard and Basic will be discontinued and replaced with a unified Standard Mathematics paper. So, the students who will enter Class 9 in 2026-27 will appear for a single unified paper in their Class 10 board exams 2027-28. But in order to challenge the gifted learners, the board has also introduced an optional Advanced Maths paper that will test Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) as a separate 1-hour paper.
