DU Admission 2024-2025: Fee Increase for All First-Year UG, PG, and PhD Students

Delhi University (DU) has announced a fee increase for all first-year students, including those in undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs, as well as foreign students, for the 2024-2025 academic session. This new fee structure was approved by Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh in June, with the changes effective from August.

Details of the Fee Hike

Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh explained, “This is a regular annual increase, usually 5-6 percent, to keep up with inflation.” According to a senior official from the Faculty of Technology, the hike applies only to first-year students in line with university guidelines.

Breakdown of Fee Changes

Tuition Fees: Increased across various courses.
Students’ Welfare Fund: Raised.
Development Fee: Increased.
Facilities and Services Charges: Raised.
Economically Weaker Section Support Fund: Increased.

Specific Fee Changes

BTech Students: Fee raised by 3.70%, from Rs 2.16 lakh to Rs 2.24 lakh. The Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) contribution has been removed.
LLB and MBA Students: DUSU contribution removed.
Other UG and PG Courses: DUSU contribution increased from Rs 20 to Rs 40.
Integrated Law Programmes: Fee increased by 5%, from Rs 1.90 lakh to Rs 1.99 lakh.
Integrated Teachers Education Programme (ITEP): Fee raised to Rs 57,400.
PhD Courses: Fee increased by 60.22%, from Rs 4,450 to Rs 7,130.

Foreign Student Fees

SAARC Countries: Fee reduced from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50,000.
Non-SAARC Countries: Fee reduced from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 1 lakh.
Tibetan Applicants: Exempt from university registration and additional college fees.

Criticisms and Concerns

The fee hike has been criticized by teachers and Executive Council members, who believe it is intended to repay loans from the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA).
