The Union Government has approved a project worth Rs. 4,900-crore Kosi-Mechi river interlinking project in Bihar.

The project will prevent recurring floods in north Bihar and also irrigate over 2.14 lakh hectares of cultivable land in Bihar.

The central government has approved construction of 76.20 km canals on the eastern bank of Kosi for irrigation purpose,

The project is aimed at alleviating hardships of the people resulting from the floods and has the potential to usher in a green revolution in the Seemanchal region.

This is the second major river interlinking project in the country to be approved after the Ken-Betwa project in Madhya Pradesh.

The river Brahmaputra originates on the Angsi Glacier which is located on the Northern Side of the Himalayas in Burang, Tibet.

• It flows as Yarlung Tsangpo River flowing into Southern Tibet, breaking through the Himalayas creating great gorges.
• Tsangpo or Brahmaputra takes a U-turn at Namcha Barwa before entering Arunachal Pradesh, where it is called Dihang or Siang River.

The Armed Forces Special Powers (AFSPA) Act has been extended in three districts of Arunachal Pradesh including Longding, Tirap, and Changlang from April 1 to September 30, 2022. In addition to this, the Central Government has also extended AFSPA in the areas falling within the jurisdiction of Namsai and Mahadevpur Police Stations in Arunachal Pradesh.
