The contra-positive of the statement "if p then q" is:

    Solution

    Given statement is:

    If p then q.

The contrapositive of a statement of the form "a is b" is "If not a then not b" or vice-versa.

    We know that:

    • The contrapositive is a logical statement which is equivalent to the original conditional statement.
    • It doesn't change the logic behind the statement.

Then, the contrapositive statement of the given statement will be :

If not q, then not p.

    i.e.,

    If ~q then ~p.

Where ~ is the symbol for "not".

Study the given patter carefully and select the number that can replace the question mark (?) in it:

    2 10 18
    3 30 84
    4 68 ?
    Solution

    (18 ÷ 2) + (2 - 1) = 9 + 1 = 10

    (84 ÷ 3) + (3 - 1) = 28 + 2 = 30

    (? ÷ 4) + (4 - 1) = 68
