Direction: In the question below are given three statements followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the given statements disregarding commonly known facts.

    Statements:

    No apple is banana.

    Some banana is litchi.

    All litchi are orange.

    Conclusions:

    I. Some litchi being apple is a possibility.

II. All orange being apple is a possibility.

III. All apple being litchi is a possibility.

    Solution

The least possible Venn diagram for the given statements is as follows:

    Conclusions:

    I. Some litchi being apple is a possibility → True (It is possible)

II. All orange being apple is a possibility → False (Part of orange that is banana can never be Apple)

III. All apple being litchi is a possibility → True (It is possible)

So, the only conclusion I and III follow.

Direction: In the following question statement is given followed by argument. Answer according to arguments given in options.

Statement: Should all the drugs patented and manufactured in Western countries be first tried out on sample basis before giving licence for sale to general public in India?

    Argument:

    I. Yes. Many such drugs require different doses and duration for Indian population and hence it is necessary.

II. No. This is just not feasible and hence cannot be implemented.

    Solution

Clearly, health of the citizens is an issue of major concern for the Government. So, a product like drugs, must be first studied and tested in the Indian context before giving licence for its sale. So, only argument I holds strong.

  • Question 10
    1 / -0

Direction: Statement is given followed by two inferences I and II. You have to consider the statement to be true even if it seems to be at variance from commonly known facts. You have to decide which of the given inferences, if any, follow from the given statement?

Statement: It is really mocking for the largest democratic country to retain the tag of developing nations for so long.

    Inferences:

    I. India yet has to become a developed nation.

II. Unless, we change our perception India cannot become developed.

    Solution

The statement suggests that despite being the largest democracy in the world, India is still classified as a developing country.

From the statement, it can be deduced that India is progressive and has yet to become a developed nation. Therefore, inference I follows.

But since the statement does not discuss the parameters of development and the criteria to assess development. We cannot deduce that a change in the perception will help India become developed. Therefore, inference II does not follow.
