Movement of people, goods and services across the nations has been termed as globalisation.

1. The silk routes are a good example of vibrant pre-modem trade and cultural links between the distant parts of the world.
2. The silk route was used by the Chinese traders to export silk to other countries.

Trade and cultural exchange always went hard in hand. Early Christian missionaries almost certainly travelled through this route to Asia, as did the early Muslim preachers, a few centuries later.

Dissenter: One who refuses to accept established beliefs and practices.

Traders and travellers introduced new crops to lands they travelled. Arabs traders took pasta to 5th century Sicily, an island now in Italy.

Many expeditions set off in search of El Dorado, the fabled city of gold.

Potatoes, soya, groundnuts, maize,etc foods were only introduced in Europe and Asia after Christopher Columbus accidentally discovered the vast continent that would later become known as the America.

Technology definitely played an important role in globalizing the world economy during this period. Some of the major technological innovations were the railways, steamship and telegraph.

Refrigeration provided an effective and cheaper way to ensure availability of meat products to Europe. Arrival of refrigeration technology changed the picture. Now, animals could be slaughtered in America and processed meat could be shipped to Europe.
This helped in better utilization of space in the ships. This also helped in better availability of meat for the Europeans and thus prices fell. Now, even the common people could afford to eat meat on a regular basis.

Indentured labour : A bonded labourer under contract to work for an employer for a specific amount of time, to pay off his passage to a new country or home.
