Population ecology is an important area of ecology because it links ecology to population genetics and evolution. At population level natural selection operates to evolve desired traits.

Intraspecific competition could be most intense and strongest as it occurs between organisms having same types of requirement of food, water etc. They may have competition for food, shelter, water, space or mat also.

One type of relationship that has been classified by biologists and ecologists is amensalism.

Amensalism is any relationship between organisms of different species in which one organism is inhibited or destroyed while the other organism remains unaffected.

Antagonistic interaction will include predation and parasitism in which one species is benefited and other is harmed.

Vital index is the ratio of births to deaths within a population during given time. If vital index is greater than hundred then the population will decreasing showing negative growth.

Sex ration is the no of female available per thousands of male in a population. Sex ratio is decline due to female feticides alarmingly in some part of India.

Stable populations are theoretical models widely used by demographers to represent and understand the structure, growth and evolution of human populations. By definition, stable populations have age-specific fertility and mortality rates that remain constant over time.

Age pyramids generally shows age distribution of male and female in combined diagram. The stble population shows a bell shaped polygon.

Polygamous population is often directly related to number of females in the population. Polygamy means having more than one female partner with single male that can reproduce.
