Maize is monocotyledonous seed containing large amount of endosperm as reserve food. It is covered by a thin layer called as alurone layer. This layer is protective in nature.

Dispersal of seed is necessary for proper growth of seed. The seeds located close to each other may have struggle for existence. The wind dispersed must be light, minute and winged so that it can be carried by wind easily. Sticky seeds remain attached with each other.

The number of ovule present in ovary determine the number of seeds produced inside the fruit. Mango and neem produce single seed in each fruit. Lemon contain a number of seeds but orchid contain many small size seeds.

Hybrid seeds are produced to increase the productivity, resistivity and nutritional value of seed and fruit. It is not used extensively as hybrid seeds have to be produced every year so it becomes costly to farmers.

Coconut is generally grown near water bodies. The seeds of coconut fall in water and float to different places that dispersed the seed.

The mature seeds may contain residual endosperm or get endosperm consumed completely during the embryological development. The seeds without endosperm are called non-albuminous seeds.

Seeds have adaptive strategies for dispersal to new habitat and help the species to colonies in new areas. Dispersal may occurs physically or with the help of birds and other animals.

Dormancy is the state of state of inactivity during which metabolic process slows down. Seed may remain viable to several months to years depending upon type of seeds and condition.

Ovule develops to form seeds and mature ovary develops into fruits. The fruits that develop only from ovary are called true fruits and those who contain other parts of flower are called false fruits.

Seed is the basis of agriculture. Before storage, seeds are dehydrated in sunlight. Seeds remain dormant till the favorable condition is present. Seeds of wheat and rice remain viable only few years.
