All farmers grow at least two main crops in Palampur.Many farmers cultivated potatoes as the third crop. In the rainy season, farmers grow jowar and bajra.
In the winter season wheat is grown.

One-fourth  means 25% of the population of Palampur is engaged in non-farming activities like shop-keeping, dairy, manufacturing and transport.
Shop-keepers buy goods from wholesalers in Shahpur and sell them in Palampur. Milk from the dairies in Palampur is transported daily to Raiganj. Some traders from Shahpur have set up collection centres and chilling plants at Raiganj, from where milk is supplied to other towns and cities.

Dairy farming is a class of agriculture for long-term production of milk, which is processed (either on the farm or at a dairy plant, either of which may be called a dairy) for eventual sale of a dairy product. Although any mammal can produce milk, commercial dairy farms are typically one-species enterprises. In developed countries, dairy farms typically consist of high producing dairy cows. Other species used in commercial dairy farming include goats, sheep, and camels. In Italy, donkey dairies are growing in popularity to produce an alternative milk source for human infants.

1:PURA in the shorter version of Providing Urban amenities in Rural Areas to tackle the problem of migration of people from rural to urban areas for employment. It is the former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Who has proposed the concept of PURA in the VISION 2020 project initiated by him. 
2:Its objective is to make rural areas as attractive as cities are. This concept was presented by Dr. Kalam in Indian National Science Congress’s 90th conference in Chandigarh in January 2004. Its goal and objectives are to provide India new heights and achievements, developed status and economy.

Non-farming activities are the activities which are not related to farming or agricultural activities. Non-farming employment is defined as any form of employment other than farm employment such as manufacturing, shop-keeping etc.

Horticulture has been defined as the culture of plants for food, comfort and beauty. It includes plant conservation, landscape restoration, soil management, landscape and garden design, construction, and maintenance, and arboriculture. It also includes Olericulture (science of vegetable growing, dealing with the culture of non-woody (herbaceous) plants for food), Floriculture, or flower farming(discipline of horticulture concerned with the cultivation of flowering and ornamental plants for gardens and for floristry, comprising the floral industry) and Pomology(is a branch of botany that studies and cultivates fruit). Hence, the horticulture is related to olericulture, floriculture and pomology.

Horticulture is the science or art of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, or ornamental plants. It impacts our lives on a daily basis by providing nutritious fruits and vegetables, offering visual enjoyment, and promoting recreational activities.
