Vocabulary Test-1

Fleeting means brief or quick or something that last for a very short time. Example- He had a fleeting moment of panic but quickly recovered.

Lax means without much care, attention, or control or not severe or strong enough or made without much force.

Example- He took a gun through baggage control to highlight the lax security.

Ecstasy means an overwhelming feeling of great happiness or joyful excitement or a state of extreme happiness, especially when feeling pleasure.

Example- “She threw her head back as if in ecstasy” or “We shared a moment of ecstasy as the chocolate melted on our tongues.”

Jaded means not having interest or losing interest because you have experienced something too many times. Example- My father's words had left me jaded and depressed.

Zest means vigorous and enthusiastic enjoyment or a quality of excitement and piquancy. Example- It's wonderful to see the children's zest for life.

Remonstrate means to make a forcefully reproachful protest. Example- He turned angrily to remonstrate with Tommy

Tedious means boring and tiring, especially because long or often repeated. Example- Learning a new computer program can be a tedious process.

Frantic means to be distraught with fear, anxiety, or other emotion or almost out of control because of extreme emotion, such as worry.

Example- When his wife arrived at the hospital she was frantic with worry.

If a place is bleak, it is empty, and not welcoming or attractive; If a situation is bleak, there is little or no hope for the future and Bleak also means without hope. Example- “With no job, the future looked bleak” or “It was a bleak, unpleasant day in December ” or “The economic outlook is bleak ”

Cease means come or bring to an end or to stop something. Example- “The hostilities ceased and normal life was resumed” or “The Company has decided to cease all UK operations after this year.”
