Steps that can be taken to improve the level of human development:

• Increasing literacy levels
• Providing health facilities
• Having more gross enrolment ratio

According to the Basic Needs Approach proposed by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), six fundamental needs are health, education, food, water supply, sanitation, and housing. These needs are considered essential for individuals to lead a dignified life.

According to the Human Development Report 2020, there were 53 countries classified as having a high level of human development. This classification is based on various indicators such as life expectancy, education, and income per capita. These countries have achieved significant progress in improving the well-being and quality of life of their citizens compared to countries with lower levels of human development.

Development: Development means a qualitative change that is always value positive. This means that development cannot take place unless there is an increment or addition to the existing conditions. Development occurs when positive growth takes place. Yet, positive growth does not always lead to development.

Bhutan is the only country in the world that measures Gross National Happiness (GNH).

HDI stands for Human Development Index. HDI rank of India in 2006 is 126 out of 177 countries.

The "basic needs" approach was introduced by the International Labour Organization's World Employment Conference in 1976.

GNH encourages us to think of the spiritual, non-material and qualitative aspects of development.

The concept of human development was introduced by Pakistani economist Dr Mahbub-ul- Haq. Dr Haq has described human development as development that enlarges people's choices and improves their lives.

Human development can vary depending on various factors and circumstances. It's not always positive or negative universally. Factors such as economic conditions, social policies, education, healthcare, and environmental factors can all influence human development in different ways. In some cases, human development may be positive, leading to improvements in living standards, education, and health. However, in other cases, it may be negative due to factors like conflict, poverty, disease, or environmental degradation. Therefore, human development can be either positive or negative, depending on the context.
