Large scale manufacturing involves various raw materials, enormous energy, specialized workers, advanced technology, assembly-line mass production, and large capital. 

Household industries or cottage manufacturing are characterized by production in homes using simple tools, often with the help of family members or part-time labor, and utilizing local raw materials. 

Primary processing is the term for the production of goods using raw materials that are extracted through agriculture, forestry, and mining.

Small scale manufacturing is typically characterized by its production techniques and the location of manufacture, which usually takes place in a workshop outside the home or cottage of the producer.

Agriculture is not considered a secondary activity.

Agriculture, forestry, fishing and mining are classified as Primary activities.

Industrial region is used for a region where secondary activities are concentrated and well-developed.

Forest based industries rely on raw materials obtained from forests such as timber and wood for their production processes. 

The term "manufacturing" encompasses production by both hand and machines, as it now includes goods made by machines.
