The crop shown in the image is wheat. It is grown extensively Punjab and Haryana.

These two states are known as the ‘wheat basket of India’.

New alluvium rich in organic matter and nutrients provided fertile soils for agriculture.

Periodic flooding results in the rejuvenation of soil fertility by depositing organic-matter rich sediment on soil surfaces.

Small hills of sands found in the desert areas are called dunes or sand dunes.

Sand dunes are not permanent hills.

The name Punjab is made of two words Punj (Five) + Aab (Water) i.e. land of five rivers.

These five rivers of Punjab are Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum.

A tributary is a freshwater stream that feeds into a larger stream or river.

The larger, or parent, river is called the mainstem.

A delta is an area of low, flat land shaped like a triangle, where a river splits and spreads out into several branches before entering the sea.

It is much easier to dam up a river near the source than near the delta.

Camel is the chief mode of transport in deserts and it can live for many days without food and water. So, the camel is called as the ‘ship of the desert

The world's largest delta is Ganges Delta, formed by river Ganga.

The plains of India include:

• The Northern Plains and,
• The Coastal Plains

• A delta is low lying flat land near the sea where the river deposits its sediment.
• Here the river is divided into many small streams known as distributaries.
• The delta formed by Ganga and Brahmaputra is known as Sunderban delta.
• Sunderban delta is the world՚s largest delta.
