Resources that are drawn from Nature and used without much modification are called natural resources. The air we breathe, the water in our rivers and lakes, the soils, minerals are all natural resources.

Virginia's water resources are vast and varied. They come from groundwater, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, bays, and oceans. Groundwater can be found beneath the Earth's surface. A river is a large natural stream of fresh water flowing along a definite plane, usually into the sea.

Careful use of a natural resource is called conservation. 

Groundwater is defined as water that is found beneath the surface of the Earth in conditions of 100 percent saturation (if it is less than 100 percent saturation, then the water is considered soil moisture). Ninety-eight percent of Earth's available freshwater is groundwater.

To irrigate is to water crops by bringing in water from pipes, canals, sprinklers, or other man-made means, rather than relying on rainfall alone.

A peninsula is a landform that can be described as a strip of land surrounded by water on three sides.

The place where the water is collected and stored is in the tank.

The oceans' water is saline and not fresh. The salt and minerals from all the rivers that flow into the ocean are collected by the ocean's water.
