  • Question 1
    1 / -0
A shopkeeper sells an article for $$\text{Rs.}\ 21,384$$ including $$10\%$$ sales-tax. However, the actual rate of sales-tax is $$8\%$$. Find the extra profit made by the dealer.
    Solution
Let, the Cost Price of the article $$=\text{C.P.} = \text{Rs.}\ x$$
    Then $$x+10\%$$ of $$x=\text{Rs.}\ 21384$$
    $$x+\dfrac{10x}{100}=21384$$

    $$x+\dfrac{x}{10}=21384$$

    $$\dfrac{11x}{10}=21384$$

    $$x=\dfrac{213840}{11}=\text{Rs.}\ 19440$$

    Actual rate of tax$$=8\%$$
    $$\therefore$$ Selling Price after tax$$\text{S.P.}=19440+8\%$$ of $$19440$$
    $$19440+\dfrac{8}{100}\times 19440$$

    $$19440+1555.2=\text{Rs.}\ 20995.20$$
    Profit made by shopkeeper$$=\text{Rs.}\ (21384-20995.20)=\text{Rs.}\ 388.80$$
  • Question 2
    1 / -0
A shopkeeper buys an article for Rs. 800 and spends Rs. 100 on its transportation, etc. He marks the article at a certain price and then sells it for Rs. 1,287 including 10% sales tax. Find this profit percent.
    Solution
    Let the $$M.P=x$$
    then adding sales tax $$\Rightarrow x+10\%  \ of \ x = x + \dfrac{x}{10}=1287Rs.$$
    $$\Rightarrow \frac{11x}{10}=1287$$
    $$\Rightarrow x=\frac{12870}{11}=Rs.1170$$
    C.P of the article$$=800+transportation\ cost = 800 + 100=Rs.900$$
    Profit$$=1170-900=270Rs.$$
    Profit%$$=\frac{270}{900}\times 100=30$$%

  • Question 3
    1 / -0
The catalogue price of a colour T.V. is Rs. 24,000. The Shopkeeper gives a discount of 8% on the list price. He gives a further off season discount of 5% on the balance. But Sales Tax at 10% is charged on the remaining amount. Find:
The final price he has to pay for the T.V.
    Solution
    List price=Rs. 24000
    Discount=8%
    Price after first discount$$=24000-\frac{8}{100}\times 24000$$
    $$\Rightarrow 24000-1920=Rs.22080$$
    Another discount=5%
    Price after second discount$$=22080-\frac{5}{100}\times 22080$$
    $$\Rightarrow 22080-1104=Rs. 20976$$
    Sales tax=10%
    Amount of sales tax$$=\frac{10}{100}\times 20976=2097.6$$
    Final price of the T.V$$=20976+2097.60=23073.6$$
  • Question 4
    1 / -0
A toy is purchased for Rs. 591.36 which includes 12% rebate on the printed price and 12% Sales Tax on the sale price of the toy. Find the printed price of the toy.
    Solution
Let the sales price of the toy=Rs.x
    Then according to the question
    $$\Rightarrow x-\frac{12x}{100}=591.36$$
    $$\Rightarrow \frac{100x-12x}{100}=591.36$$
    $$\Rightarrow 88x=591.36\times 100$$
    $$\Rightarrow x=\frac{59136}{88}=Rs.672$$
    Let the printed price =Rs.y
    $$\therefore y+\frac{12y}{100}=672$$
    $$\Rightarrow \frac{100y+12y}{100}=672$$
    $$\Rightarrow y=\frac{672\times 100}{112}=Rs.600$$

    Discount=15% and 10%
    C.P after discount$$=20000\times \frac{85}{100}\times \frac{90}{100}=Rs.15300$$
    Rate of sales tax=10%
    Sales tax amount=10% of 15300$$=\frac{10}{100}\times 15300=Rs.1530$$

    $$\Rightarrow \frac{109x}{100}=9156$$
    $$\Rightarrow 109x=915600$$
    $$\Rightarrow x=\frac{915600}{109}=Rs.8400$$
    Increment $$=8400-7500=Rs.900$$
