  • Question 1

Arun purchased 30 kg of wheat at the rate of Rs 11.50 per kg and 20 kg of wheat at the rate of Rs 14.25 per kg . He mixed the two and sold the mixture. Approximately what price per kg should he sell the mixture to make 30% profit?
    Solution

    C.P. of $$50 Kg$$ wheat = $$ (30 \times  11.50 + 20 \times 14.25)$$

    $$= Rs. (345 + 285) = Rs. 630.$$

    S.P of $$50 Kg$$ wheat=130% of 630=$$\frac{130}{100}\times 630=819  Rs$$

    S.P. per kg=$$\frac{819}{30+20}$$

    =$$\frac{819}{50}$$

    =$$16.40  Rs.$$

  • Question 2
    1 / -0
After getting two successive discounts a shirt with a list price of Rs. 150 is available at Rs. 105. If the second discount is 12.5%, find the first discount.
    Solution
Let the first discount be $$x \%$$

    Then, $$87.5\; \%$$ of $$(100-x)\;\%$$ of $$150=105$$

    $$\Rightarrow \dfrac{87.5}{100}\times \dfrac{100-x}{100}\times 150=105$$

    $$\Rightarrow 100-x=\dfrac{105\times 100\times 100}{87.5\times 150}$$

    $$\Rightarrow 100-x=80$$

    $$\Rightarrow x=20\;\%$$
  • Question 3
    1 / -0
In a business A and C invested amounts in the ratio 2 : 1 whereas the ratio between amounts invested by A and B was 3 :2 If Rs 157300 was their profit how much amount did B receive?
    Solution
    $$A:B=3:2=6:4$$
    $$A:C=2:1=6:3$$
    $$A:B:C=6:4:3$$
    B's share=$$\frac{4}{13}\times 157300=48400  Rs.$$
  • Question 4
    1 / -0
The prices of a scooter and a TV are in the ratio 7 : 5 If the scooter costs Rs 8000 more than a TV set then the price of a TV set is
    Solution
Let the prices of scooter be 7x and tv set  be 5x.
the difference between the two prices is 7x-5x=2x,
    According to the question.
    $$2x=8000$$
    $$  x=4000.$$
so price of scooter is $$7x=7\times 4000=28000 $$
and price of tv set is $$5x=5\times 4000=20000$$
  • Question 5
    1 / -0
A and B entered into partnership with capitals in the ratio 4 : 5 After 3 months A withdraw $$\displaystyle \frac{1}{4}$$ of his capital and B withdraw $$\displaystyle \frac{1}{5}$$ of his capital. The gain at the end of 10 months was Rs 760. A's share in this profit is
    Solution
    Ratio of the initial capital of A and B = 4 : 5
Hence the initial capitals of A and B is  4x and 5x
Ratio in which profit will be divided
    $$(4x\times 3)+(\frac{3}{4}\times 4x\times 7):(5x\times 3)+(\frac{4}{5}\times 5x\times 7)$$
    $$33:43$$
    A's share=$$\frac{33}{76}\times 760=Rs    330$$

  • Question 6
    1 / -0
A shopkeeper sells a badminton racket whose marked price is Rs 30 at a discount of 15%. A shuttle cock costing Rs 1.50 is given free with each racket. The shopkeeper makes a profit of 20% His cost price per racket is
    Solution
    Marked price$$ =$$ Rs. $$30$$.
    Discount $$=15 \% $$ of  $$30$$
    $$\Rightarrow$$ Discount $$ = \dfrac{15}{100}\times 30= $$Rs$$ 4.5 $$
    Then S.P $$ =30-4.50= $$Rs$$ 25.50  .$$
    Rs. $$1.50 $$ shuttle cock is given free so actual S.P $$= $$Rs$$ 25.50-Rs1.50=Rs24  $$
    Profit percentage $$=20%$$
    CP $$ = \dfrac{100}{100 + Percentage \; Profit} \times SP$$
    Then $$C.P.=\dfrac{100}{120}\times 24=Rs20 .$$
  • Question 7
    1 / -0
A, B and C start a business each investing Rs 20000 After 5 months A withdraw Rs 5000, B withdraw Rs 4000 and C invests Rs 6000 more At the end of the year a total profit of Rs 69900 was recorded Find the share of each
    Solution
    Ratio of the capitals of A, B and C = $$20000 \times  5 + 15000 \times  7 : 20000 \times  5 + 16000 \times  7 20000 \times  5 + 26000 \times  7$$
    $$= 205000 : 212000 : 282000 = 205 : 212 : 282$$
    $$\therefore$$ A's share $$ =Rs.(69900\times \dfrac{205}{699})=RS.20500$$
    B's share $$=Rs.(69900\times \dfrac{212}{699})=RS.21200$$
    C's share $$ =Rs.(69900\times \dfrac{282}{699})=RS.28200$$
  • Question 8
    1 / -0
A shop-keeper purchases $$11$$ knives in Rs. $$10$$ and sells them at the rate of $$10$$ knives for Rs.$$11$$. He earns a profit of
    Solution

    C.P. of $$1$$ knife $$=\dfrac{10}{11}$$
    S.P of $$1$$ knife $$= \dfrac{11}{10}$$
    Profit $$=$$ S.P $$-$$ C.P
    Profit =$$ \dfrac{11}{10} - \dfrac{10}{11} = \dfrac{121 - 100}{110} = \dfrac{21}{110}$$

    Profit $$\%$$ $$ = \dfrac{\text {profit}}{\text {C.P.}} \times 100 $$

    Profit $$\%$$ $$ = \dfrac{\dfrac{21}{110}}{\dfrac{10}{11}} \times 100$$

    $$ \Rightarrow \dfrac{21}{110} \times \dfrac{11}{10} \times 100 = 21$$ $$\%$$

  • Question 10
    1 / -0
An agent makes a profit of $$20$$ per cent even after giving$$10$$ per cent discount on the advertised price. If he makes a profit of Rs. $$750$$ on the sale of a scooter, the advertised price is
    Solution
Let the advertised price of a scooter $$=$$ Rs. x
    $$\therefore$$
    Sale price of a scooter

    $$\displaystyle=Rs.\frac{90}{100}x=Rs.\frac{9}{10}x$$

If the C.P. of scooter $$=$$ Rs. y, then

    $$\displaystyle\frac{9}{10}x=\frac{100+20}{100}y=\frac{6}{5}y$$

    $$\displaystyle\therefore y=\frac{3}{4}x$$

    but, Profit = S.P. - C.P.
    $$\displaystyle Rs.750=\frac{9}{10}x-y$$

    $$\displaystyle Rs. 750=\frac{9}{10}x-\frac{3}{4}x$$
    $$\displaystyle Rs.750=\frac{3}{20}x$$

    $$\displaystyle x=Rs.\frac{20}{3}\times750=Rs. 5000$$
