    Menstrual cycle is controlled by
    Solution
    A.Correct option A
    B.Explanation for correct option:

    • At the beginning of the menstrual cycle, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is produced by the pituitary gland.
    • This hormone stimulates the ovaries to produce mature eggs.
    • The FSH stimulates follicle development and the production of estrogen.
    • The level of estrogen starts increasing as the follicles grow.
    • Estrogen eventually causes a rapid rise in luteinising hormone (LH) causing the dominant follicle to rupture and release the mature egg from the ovary. This process is called ovulation.
    •  After ovulation, the follicle starts producing progesterone that builds up the lining of the womb in preparation for a fertilized egg.
    • Meanwhile, the empty follicle within the ovary starts shrinking but continues to produce progesterone, and also starts producing estrogen.
    • As the empty follicle shrinks, levels of estrogen and progesterone decreases if the egg is not fertilized.
    • If the egg is not fertilized the thick womb lining that has been built up starts breaking down and the body sheds the lining without high levels of hormones to maintain it.
    • This is the start of menstruation and the beginning of the next menstrual cycle.
    • Thus, the whole cycle is controlled by hormones.
