Coal and Petroleum Test - 4

Petroleum was formed from organisms living in the sea. As these organisms died, their bodies settled at the bottom of the sea and got covered with layers of sand and clay. Over millions of years, absence of air, high temperature and high pressure transformed the dead organisms into pertroleum and natural gas.

As we all know that many useful substances like in manufacturing of detergents, fibres and other man-made plastics are obtained from petroleum.

Due to its great commercial importance, petroleum is also called ‘black gold’.

Let’s analyse each option,

Coal tar is obtained from Coal.

Coal is processed in industry to get some useful products such as coke,coal tar and coal gas.

Petrol and diesel are obtained from a natural source called petroleum.

As we see in our daily life that for running these heavy motor vehicles like trucks and tractors we need diesel which we fill in our vehicle from petrol-pump.

Fossil fuels like Coal, Petroleum etc are burnts and generate concern about Air Pollution & Global Warming. The situation of Delhi is also because of burning of fossil fuels.

As we all know that Natural Resources are those which are obtained from nature.

And, soil is easily available in nature.

Under high pressure and high temperature, dead plants got slowly converted to coal. As coal contains mainly carbon, the slow process of conversion of dead vegetation into coal is called carbonisation.whereas, coke, coal gas and coal tar are the products obtained by some processing of coal in industries.
