Despite the broad unity of the monsoon type of climate, variation in climate occurs in different regions of the country. For example, the climatic conditions of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in the north differ from that of Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the south; yet all of these states have a similar monsoon type of climate. These variations are expressed in the form of winds, temperature and rainfall, rhythm of seasons and the degree of wetness or dryness. These regional diversities are known as the sub-types of monsoon climate. 

Winds that give maximum rainfall to India are south west monsoon. These winds bring rains towards the end of the summer due to high pressure built in the Indian Ocean.

These monsoon strikes Malabar Coast in the month of June and by November leaves the country. Most of the food production in India depends on these monsoons.

October heat is referred to the oppressive weather conditions that prevail during month of October-November over most of India. The oppressive weather is caused as increased humidity (due to rainfall during monsoon season), clear skies (cause heating of land) and high pressure conditions over most of North India creates hot-humid environment, which reduces rate of evaporation from your body and make you feel hot even during low sun season.

The Ganga Valley is the humid climatic region. Although the climate of India is generally warm throughout the year , there are wide variations from region to region. In the Ganges Valley, the hottest season occurs during March through June. There may be occasional thunderstorms , especially in the east. For the most part , the climate during this summer season remains dry , but extremely hot and humid.

The most important climatic control is latitude. Latitude affects the temperature of a place. The places situated at higher altitudes which are far from equator receive lesser sunlight and places which are located towards the equator which is  0-degree latitude receives more sunlight and are hotter than the places located at higher latitudes. Sunlight also affects precipitation or rainfall.

Thus the latitudinal position of a region decides the climate of the place.

Landforms and drainage are two of the three basic elements that make the natural environment of any area. Climate is the third basic element of the natural environment. Climate refers to the sum total of weather conditions and variations over a large area for a long period of time. Elements of climate  are temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind, humidity, precipitation.

• Rajasthan receives scanty rainfall. The two main reasons are:
  
• Southeast monsoon arising from the Bay of Bengal loses its moisture by the time it reaches the north-western part of India where Rajasthan is located.
  
• And the southwest monsoon arising from the Arabian sea flows parallel to the Aravalli mountains and reach the northeast part of India.
