  • Question 1
    5 / -1
One evening right before sunset, Raheem and Fatima were standing in the playground facing each other. Raheem’s shadow was falling right behind him. In which direction Fatima’s shadow is falling?
    Solution

It is evening, this means sun is in the west.

If Raheem’s shadow falls behind him, this means he faces towards west direction.

Since, Raheem and Fatima face each other, thus Fatima faces towards east direction and her shadow falls in front of her.

Hence, Fatima’s shadow falls in front of her.

  • Question 2
    5 / -1
If North is called West, West is called South and South is called East, then what will South-West be called as?
    Solution

    Thus South-West is called South-East.

  • Question 3
    5 / -1
Sandeep starts walking to East. After 16 km, he turns to his left and walks straight for 12 km. How far is he from his starting point?
    Solution

    From the above diagram,

    By Pythagoras’ theorem,

    The shortest distance = √162 + 122

    = √256 + 144

    = √400

    = 20

So, he is 20 km from his starting point.

Hence, '20 km' is the correct answer.

  • Question 4
    5 / -1
One morning Rucha was walking to bus stop to catch bus to her office. Her shadow was exactly to the left of Rucha. In which direction was Rucha walking?
    Solution

In the morning the Sun is in the East, so the shadow will fall towards the West.

In the evening the Sun is in the West, so the shadow will fall towards the East.

Rucha’s shadow is to her left. Since its morning time Sun is in the East and shadow is in West. So, This is possible only if Rucha is facing North.

    Hence, Rucha is facing North.
  • Question 5
    5 / -1
Rinki is facing East direction. She turns 90° anti clockwise. Then she turns 180° clockwise. In which direction is she facing now?
    Solution

    Using information given in question:

Hence, Rinki is now facing South direction.

  • Question 6
    5 / -1
If North-East is called East, North is called North-East and North-West is called North, then what will South be called as?
    Solution

If North-East is called East, North is called North-East and North-West is called North.

Hence, Now south will be called as South – West.

  • Question 7
    5 / -1
Neerav is facing southeast. He then turns 135° clockwise. After that he turns 90° anticlockwise. Now he turns 225° clockwise. Which direction is he facing now?
    Solution

According to the given information :

    Finally, Neerav is facing North-East.

Hence, the correct answer is "Northeast".

    Alternate Method

    The initial direction is Southeast.

Consider clockwise as (+) and anti-clockwise as (-).

The series of turns is as follows :

    135 clockwise →  90 anti-clockwise → 225 clockwise

    (+ 135) + (- 90) + (+ 225) = 135 -  90 + 225 = 270

The value is positive, means it is clockwise.

270 clockwise from Southeast will be Northeast.

    OR

    (360 - 270) = 90 anti-clockwise.

90 anti-clockwise from Southeast will be Northeast.

Hence, the correct answer is "Northeast".

  • Question 8
    5 / -1
Pawandeep walked 30 m towards the north, took a right turn, and walked 40 m, again he took a right turn and walked 30 m. How far is he from the starting point?
    Solution

According to the information given in the question, we can draw the following diagram.

Therefore the distance between the Starting Point and End Point is 40 m.

Hence, the correct answer is "40 m".

  • Question 9
    5 / -1

A man walks 1 km towards East and then turns to South and walks 5 km. Again he turns to east and walks 2 km. After then he turns to North and walks 9 km. How far is he now from his starting point?

    Solution

The path can be traced as follows,

Thus applying Pythagoras Theorem distance between starting point and ending point is 5 km.

  • Question 10
    5 / -1
Megha walked 30m towards the south, took a left turn, and walked 50m, again she took a left turn and walked 30m. How far is she from the starting point?
    Solution

Drawing the diagram as per the given information:

So, she is 50m from the starting point.

Hence, the correct answer is "50 m".
