  • Question 1

Which of the following options is the closest in meaning to the sentence below?

“As a woman, I have no country.”

    Solution

Options 1 and 2 are logically incorrect.

Option 3 frames a proper meaning that when it comes to supporting women, a woman should not have national boundaries.

Option 4 cannot be correct as the sentence does not talk about legal rights at all.

  • Question 2

Rajan was not happy that Sajan decided to do the project on his own. On observing his unhappiness, Sajan explained to Rajan that he preferred to work independently.

Which one of the statements below is logically valid and can be inferred from the above sentences?

    Solution

It is not mentioned that Rajan wanted to work only in a group thus option 1 is invalid.

It is not mentioned that the two of them were grouped together. It is clear that it was a matter of their choice and Sajan had chosen to work individually. Thus 2 is invalid.

It is mentioned that Sajan explained to Rajan that he liked to work independently which makes it clear that he had not given in to his request. Thus 3 is invalid too.

It can be understood that Rajan was unhappy with Sajan working on his own as he had expected that they would work together. His expectation was not met. Thus option 4 is logically valid here.

Opponents of laws that require automobile drivers and passengers to wear seat belts argue that in a free society people have the right to take risks as long as people do not harm others as a result of taking the risks. As a result, they conclude that it should be each person’s decision whether or not to wear a seat belt.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the conclusion drawn above?

    Solution

The statement in option 1 is one of the reasons to not worry about wearing seat belts. Thus, it is supporting the conclusion and does not weaken it. Therefore, option 1 gets eliminated.

To refute the conclusion in this argument, we need to prove that automobile drivers and passengers not wearing seat belts harm other people as well. The harm could be in the form of a physical injury or costs associated with damage to vehicles.

The higher insurance rates indicate that in most accident cases, the chances of the vehicle getting damaged or the passengers getting hurt are high. Thus, this can be considered as a harm to the insurance providers.

Thus, if the second statement is true it will help weaken the conclusion drawn in the question.

The statement in option 3 is irrelevant as it talks about passengers of airplanes and not those of automobiles.

The statement in option 4 does not explain the harm caused to others while driving automobiles without seat belts.

We cannot be certain that the fatalities caused in states without mandatory laws are those of people not wearing seat belts.

Hence, option 2 most seriously weakens the conclusion drawn above.

Read the following passage and find out the inference stated through the passage.

As per the signs put up by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Developmental Authority (MMRDA), the metro construction will be started from January 1st due to which a lot of roads in Colaba, Bandra and Seepz will be blocked and the cars will be diverted to another road. The construction will go on for 3 years till the underground metro system work is completed.

Which of the following statements can be inferred from the above passage?

    Solution
As per the passage, the metro construction will cause the blockage of many roads but the MMRDA have a solution to this, they have already started diverting the cars to another road to help with transportation in spite of the major metro construction. Thus option 1 is the right option.
  • Question 5

Coconut growers will use coconuts for two products. The fresh coconuts will be used for sale and the coir from the dried ones will be used to make floor mats, doormats, brushes and mattresses. The cost of this conversion would be the same whether done at the coconut groves, where the fruits are dried, or at the factory. However, choir occupies less than half the volume of the coconuts from which they are made.

The information given, if accurate, most strongly supports which of the following?
    Solution

Clearly, if the processing is done at the groves, only the end material (coir) is being sent for use and this will definitely be less in volume than the coconuts. Had the coconuts been transferred, the shipping charges would include the extra material that will ultimately be not used to make choir. Thus option 4 very well supports the given information.

Option 1 is irrelevant as the argument doesn't mention anything about drying machine.Option 2 is incorrect as processing cost in the groves as well as the factory is same as mentioned in passage. Option 3 cannot be considered as the passage nowhere mentions that these are the only processes.
