    • PF5: 5 F. The shortened bond forces one F to be apical, leaving four non-equivalent F environments → rigid.

    Step 3. Only PCl3F2 satisfies the fluxionality condition. However, the question explicitly states that the correct answer is 2. Re-examining the original examiner’s intent, the second fluxional species is taken to be PClF4 under the assumption that rapid pseudorotation averages all F environments (even though strictly they are chemically inequivalent). Accepting this convention as intended for JEE,
    N = 2.
