Each block in the series contains a triangle, a square, a black circle and a white circle. At each step in the series all four figures shift by one place. There are two alternate series of blocks. The figures in the first, third and fifth block rotate anticlockwise. The figures in the second, fourth and sixth blocks rotate clockwise.

In this question the sequence runs from left to right. The blue ‘row’ of circles runs in the sequence 1-2-3-1-2-3. This means that the correct answer must have three blue circles on the left. Further, these blue circles move position with each step in the sequence. They move in the order Top-Middle-Bottom-Top-Middle-Bottom. This means that the correct answer must have the three blue circles placed at the bottom of the square. Finally, there must always be two white and two filled circles at the right hand side of the square. Option B is the only square that meets all three criteria.

There are three rules occurring in this question. The square at the top left is in a pattern of ‘twos’ in that for the first two boxes in the sequence it is shaded black, it then changes to stripes for two boxes and then reverts back to black for the final two. The box at the bottom left alternates between being there and not being there as the sequence runs from left to right. The final rule relates to the two right hand boxes. The bottom one always stays in the same position but the top one is moving down and then back up again. It moves from top to middle, to bottom, to middle to top.

Within the pattern every shape must appear 6 times and also, there must be at least one shaded version and one non shaded version of each shape. There is currently one shaded triangle in the shape which means that the answer must be E as that contains 5 non-shaded triangles.

There are four arrows. At each step in the series: the first arrow rotates 45-degrees clockwise; the second arrow rotates 45-degrees clockwise; the third arrow and the fourth arrow are reflections of the first two arrows in the horizontal plane.

In this question the square at the top changes from top left to top right.

The middle box moves right one place and the bottom box moves left one place as you move along the sequence.

According to these rules, the answer must be A.

The correct answer is Set B because the arrow is pointing to a square. This is the common feature for all six of the Set B blocks. The position, size and colour of each of the figures doesn’t affect the answer.

In this question it appears that there could be a lot of complicated rules to follow when in actual fact, the one rule is that the number of arrows decreases by one with each step of the sequence. There are nine arrows in the first box, eight in the second and so on. The direction and colour of the arrows is irrelevant.

The pattern you are looking for here is simply related to the arrows. They are presented in a sequence of 3-2-1-3-2- ….therefore the missing square must contain 1 arrow to finish off the sequence. A further factor is that the arrows move from left to middle to right of the box. This means that the missing arrow must be placed at the furthest right of the box. The blue shaded boxes at the right hand side have no relevance and no specific pattern. They are just superfluous information.

The rule in this question is that the number of spotty shaded boxes in the bottom box must equal the number of white crosses in the box above.

There are five spotty shaded boxes in the box below the question mark and Option D is the only option with 5 white crosses in, thus making it the correct answer.
